63 Fuelie Day 2: Driveshaft removal, Rear Differential removal, trailing arm removal, trailing arm install...

 

The driveshaft is out...

Loosening up the Diff. front "snubber"

Crossmember had some unique super-sized washers installed.

Broke the sombreros free...

Lowered the rear differential & crossmember




Removed the old trailing arms



Original shims

Installed the new trailing arms


New shims needed some filing


Old rear-diff. and trailing arms

Long day.  Got a lot done.

63 Fuelie: trailing arms, half shafts, leaf spring, struts and more...

 

Time to get rolling.  Remove tire tub, then exhaust...


Moved it off the lift.  Time to remove the rear leaf spring...



Remove rear shocks

Remove struts...

Remove half shafts...


Jerry starting on brake removal



Tomorrow, we'll move onto rear differential & driveshaft removal, and then begin reassembly.

C2 Brake hose markings...

 



Started off with repro brake hoses from Paragon

Cleaned off the incorrect markings using, what else?, brake fluid.

Used Gary B.'s brake hose apparatus for making correct striping...






The finished product.  Ready to install.

Rear Diff. Crossmember Sombrero removal

 

It's always good to use a lot of Liquid Wrench and let it soak in overnight...


A large 1 1/4" socket fits nicely in the sombrero to assist forcing out the old sombrero

63 Corvette Steering: Relay Rod Rebuild & Idler install

63 on the operating table

Current Idler arm w/torn grease seal

Relay rod seal needs replaced


Started with breaking free idler arm side & moving toward pitman arm on drivers side



New Idler arm installed.

The old one was pretty rough...

Here it is apart w/50 year old grease

Rebuilding with new springs & seals
